About the Competition
The Your Script Produced! Drama Screenplay Competition is a genre-focused screenwriting and talent discovery event designed to discover and promote underrepresented writers, directors, producers, actors, and filmmakers worldwide across 14 specialized drama sub-genres. It offers winners direct access to top industry players including United Talent Agency (UTA), with prizes that include tickets to the YSP Film Festival and Entertainment Finance Summit in Hollywood this November 2026.
The competition is open worldwide to any writer 18 years of age or older. Writers under 18 may enter with a signed parental or legal guardian consent form. There are no geographic restrictions — international writers are fully eligible.
Entering a drama screenplay competition like Your Script Produced! gives writers direct access to working industry professionals, talent agencies, and production companies. Rather than cold-querying agents, competitors place their work in front of decision-makers actively looking for new material — with the potential for representation, optioning deals, and festival recognition.
Your Script Produced! Drama Competition is exclusively represented by United Talent Agency (UTA), one of the top three talent and literary agencies in Hollywood. Scripts are evaluated by active industry professionals — not anonymous readers — and winners gain access to a network that includes major distributors like A24, Netflix, Lionsgate, Amazon, and Sony. Grand Prize winners also receive complimentary tickets to both the Entertainment Finance Summit and the 1st Annual Your Script Produced! Film Festival in Hollywood, November 2026.
Each script is scored on a scale of 1 to 10 across seven categories: Story, Originality, Structure, Pacing, Characterization, Dialogue, and Commercial Potential. The competition advances scripts through four rounds:
  • Quarter-Finalists: Top 20% of submissions
  • Semi-Finalists: Top 10% of submissions
  • Finalists: Top 3% of submissions
Winners are selected based on the highest cumulative scores from the judging panel.
The announcement schedule is as follows:
  • Official Selection: September 13, 2026
  • Quarter-Finalists: October 5, 2026
  • Semi-Finalists: October 11, 2026
  • Finalists: October 16, 2026
  • Grand Prize Winners: October 19, 2026

No. The competition requires original, unproduced work only. Scripts based on a real person’s life or an existing book require a written agreement from that person or the book’s author before submission.

  • Feature Films: 85–110 pages
  • Short Scripts: 3–30 pages
  • TV Pilots: 25–60 pages
Judging Process
Scripts are scored 1–10 across seven criteria: Story, Originality, Structure, Pacing, Characterization, Dialogue, and Commercial Potential. All evaluations are conducted by active industry professionals — producers, directors, writers, and development executives. Decisions by the judging panel are final and binding.
Judges assess both the craft and commercial viability of a script. Strong scores across Story, Characterization, and Dialogue reflect narrative quality, while Structure, Pacing, and Commercial Potential signal a script’s readiness for production. A well-rounded script that scores consistently across all seven categories is most competitive.
Originality is one of the seven scored criteria and a core eligibility requirement. Scripts must be original works not based on existing IP without written consent. In the drama genre, original voice and fresh perspective within familiar sub-genres — tragedy, psychological drama, coming-of-age — are key differentiators in a competitive field.
Finalists represent the top 3% of all submissions, selected based on cumulative scores from the full judging panel. The path to finalist status runs through Quarter-Finals (top 20%) and Semi-Finals (top 10%), with each round narrowing the field based on total score rankings.
A winning screenplay scores at the highest level across all seven judging criteria, demonstrating both artistic craft and commercial potential. Beyond technical execution, winning scripts tend to present powerful narratives with universal emotional resonance — stories that judges and industry professionals can envision moving from page to production.
Finalists receive a 15-minute guidance Zoom call with a member of the executive team or a producer. General feedback on all submitted scripts is not part of the standard competition process, but placement at any level — from Official Selection onward — signals a professional assessment of the work’s quality.
Drama Screenwriting
A great drama screenplay combines emotionally grounded characters with a compelling narrative structure and clear thematic intent. It earns its emotional moments through honest character behavior, not manipulation, and maintains pacing that respects both tension and quieter human moments. Judges at Your Script Produced! specifically evaluate story, characterization, dialogue, and pacing as distinct craft elements.
Emotionally compelling characters are built on internal contradiction — they want something, but something else holds them back. In drama, character decisions under pressure reveal who someone truly is. Writers should ground every emotional beat in specific, observable behavior rather than stated feeling. The most memorable drama characters carry wounds that are visible in how they move through the world, not just in what they say.
The most common mistakes include:
  • Over-explaining character motivation in dialogue instead of dramatizing it through action
  • Neglecting structure in favor of emotional moments, disrupting pacing
  • Writing passive protagonists who react instead of driving the story
  • Failing to establish clear commercial potential — a dedicated judging criterion at Your Script Produced!
Page count depends on format. For the Your Script Produced! Drama Competition: Feature Films must be 85–110 pages, TV Pilots 25–60 pages, and Short Scripts 3–30 pages. These ranges align with industry standards and ensure scripts are evaluated within the correct format category.
Producers assess a drama screenplay on its story viability, budget implications, and market potential alongside its craft. At Your Script Produced!, Commercial Potential is one of seven scored categories — meaning a script must demonstrate not only strong writing but a clear path to production and audience.
A drama screenplay stands out when it combines technical proficiency across structure, dialogue, and pacing with a narrative that feels both specific and universal. Scripts that score consistently across all judging criteria — rather than excelling in one area while weak in another — tend to advance furthest. A distinctive voice, a clear sub-genre fit, and a story that judges can viscerally imagine on screen are the hallmarks of competition-ready drama writing.

Competitions like Your Script Produced! provide emerging writers with industry validation, direct access to agents and producers, and exposure through trade publication announcements. Placement at any level — from Official Selection through Grand Prize — signals professional credibility that can open doors to representation, staffing consideration, and production meetings that cold outreach rarely achieves.
Yes. Your Script Produced! connects winners and finalists with the entertainment finance community through complimentary tickets to the Entertainment Finance Summit, where writers can meet investors and production executives. The competition’s network includes major streaming platforms and distributors — Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, A24, Lionsgate, Sony, Searchlight, Paramount, and Angel Studios — creating genuine exposure to capital and production infrastructure.
For emerging writers without industry connections, competitions are one of the most effective ways to get work seen by decision-makers. Your Script Produced! specifically positions itself as a discovery platform for underrepresented and overlooked talent worldwide. Entry fees are tiered by deadline, making early submission the most cost-effective path to accessing UTA representation, Hollywood industry events, and potential production deals that would otherwise require years of networking to reach.
